HISTORY WEEK 2024 – MARKING TIME

A Tapestry of Women’s Lives : warp, weft and stray strands of determination.

2024 marks 50 years of women’s refuges in Australia and WEL’s submission to the 1974 Wages Hearing which led to a uniform minimum wage for women and men. These actions are interwoven through time and place by the lives of women whose insistence, persistence, courage and compassion continue the fight for women’s human rights.

Inspired by our Tapestry Project, we will create a series of Facebook posts throughout the week, 7-15 September, highlighting some of the extraordinary and less recognised stories of women whose lives have contributed to the political and social fabric of Australian society.
